• Loss of Power or Operation (sudden power loss): Sometimes the joystick fails to return fully to the neutral position due to a worn spring or faulty sensor. The system interprets this as “control not returned to neutral” and temporarily cuts power as a safety response.
• Erratic Movement (unstable action): When the potentiometer inside the joystick is worn out, the proportional signal is unstable, causing: random shaking of the turret; sudden jittering of the boom or uneven movement speed; platform action “bursting” or “stall”
• Platform Controls Not Working, But Ground Controls Are: The control system logic of Genie is: ground control directly controls the main control module, while the platform control signal must pass through the joystick, wiring harness, and main control module, so the platform side is more susceptible.
• Fault Codes: Common related codes include: U033/U035: communication error (CAN Communication Error); 47/48/49: joystick or proportional control voltage exception
• Machine Will Not Start: Genie detects if the Joystick is “homing” at startup. If 'joystick' is offset, even if it is slightly, it will cause the startup to be disabled.
• Visible Damage or Poor Resistance: If the joystick feels loose and the resistance is uneven, it's almost certain that the internal spring, sensor or potentiometer is worn. The Genie platform also usually displays “Not in Neutral” or “Input Fault” code in this case.
